Earth cannot be protected but you can take steps to protect yourself and loved ones. Please see the National Academies of Sciences report, “Severe Space Weather Events – Understanding Societal and Economic Impacts”, a free download, http://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=12643&page=1. Should a severe solar storm disable communications, navigation and power in a large area, there will be no substitute for intensive preparedness, for periods that could last a month or more.

is there any way of protecting earth from solar storms at all or is it something that cant be done.

I’m not surprised by this “news”. It seems pretty obvious that with what went on, the consequences will be deep, wide and long-lasting. I’m glad someone is measuring and reporting.

There is no radioisoope Cerium-103. I think it is Cerium 130
