Disaster Relief

In keeping with our mission to save lives and alleviate the stress and suffering associated with health and safety hazards and disasters, we donate a portion of our profits to a variety of organizations. Some provide relief to those struggling in the aftermath of disaster, war, famine and epidemic disease.  Others provide help such as food, shelter, medical care and other basic services to individuals and communities.

At present, 5% of our profits are donated to disaster and other relief organizations. We hope to increase this amount to 10% by 2012.

In general, Defying Disaster™ selects charities that limit organization expenses to 15% of funds collected, giving at least 85% to those in need.  Recipients for 2011 include:

• Partners in Health, Cambridge, Massachusetts
• Doctors without Borders USA, New York, NY
• Save the Children, Westport, CT
• Feeding America’s Hungry Children, Phoenix, AZ
• International Relief Teams, San Diego, CA
• Heifer Project International, Little Rock, AR

Although Heifer International does not strictly meet our criteria, we are so impressed with Heifer’s mission, model and success, we’ve made an exception and have designated it a 2011 recipient.
