Our Work: Courses and Training
We employ dynamic teaching and presentation methods including multi-media, discussion, games, exercises, stories, demonstration, and lecture to fully engage participants and stimulate learning. We utilize webcasting, teleconferencing, and videoconferencing ( SKYPE), according to your needs. We leave you with training aids that will cue information retrieval to increase safety when it really counts.
Our instructors have at least 5 years of high level teaching, and / or deep subject-specific experience and training. Instructors are proficient in their subject areas. All are talented presenters.
Course content and focus for our standardized courses are derived from survey information, local and national events, research, experience, and evidence-based practices. Customized courses and presentations are developed after a specific assessment of needs.
Class length
- 3 hour Basic courses
- 4-6 hour intermediate and advanced courses
- Workshops, teleconferences, videoconferencing, and customized courses range from 1hour to several days
Fees
- $40 per person for basic (3 hour) courses; $60 – $80 per person for intermediate and advanced (4-6 hour) courses. Minimum class size is 15 participants. Please call for pricing for groups of 20 or more and for non-profit agencies.
- We regularly provide low-cost topical workshops and presentations for the community
- Workshop and conference costs vary. Please call for a quote.
- Travel time is charged for local travel over 30 miles; travel expenses if outside the SF Bay Area

Emergency/Disaster Readiness Series, Basic Intermediate and Advanced Classes and Workshops
In this series, you’ll learn about the risks and effects of a wide variety of threats including:
- earthquakes
- nuclear / radiological incidents
- severe weather, including floods, tornadoes, ARk storms, heat and cold emergencies
- firestorms
- hazardous accidents
- infrastructure failures such as prolonged electrical outages
- infectious and communicable disease threats including pandemics
- terrorist attacks.
The repercussions of these situations will be discussed—how they are likely to affect you, your family, workplace, neighborhood and community. You’ll obtain information and skills that will help prepare you for the hazards you’ll face. Classes are customized for home, work or community settings.

In this series you will learn how to protect yourself, family members and others from a variety of threatening situations. We’ll teach you how to assess yourself and specific circumstances to determine if you could be in danger. You’ll learn how criminals think, about personal risk factors, the importance of evaluating your surroundings, and other methods that will reduce your chances of becoming a victim, including how to recognize and act on your intuition.
We explore a variety of methods that can be used to evade or prevent assaults, aggression, robberies, and other crimes. You’ll learn how to deal with threats at home, in the workplace, within the community, and during disasters. We address internet safety, identity theft, emerging threats, and special concerns for children, teens, women, elders, and other vulnerable populations. Courses are customized for particular settings and circumstances. Class levels available: basic, intermediate, and advanced.
Personal Preparedness Series, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Classes
This series focuses on ways you can organize your home, workplace, family and your lifestyle to be better prepared for emergencies. You’ll learn how to develop communication, disaster, security and evacuation plans to help you and your family find each other, survive, and avoid hazards and unnecessary losses in an emergency or disaster. We’ll review the important documents and documentation you should have on hand. We’ll talk about how to keep you and your household or workplace safe and secure in situations where law enforcement, fire and healthcare personnel become unavailable.
We’ll focus on supply caches, disinfection and sanitation alternatives, first aid and home care, food and water storage and safety, water purification, security, self care, and evaluation of alternative energy and fuels for lighting, heating, working and cooking. Selection and evaluation of equipment and supplies will also be discussed. Class levels available: basic, intermediate, and advanced.

Individuals, groups and communities can be severely impacted by infectious diseases due to the emergence of new or displaced diseases, few new antibiotics, the presence of more virulent microorganisms, infections acquired in healthcare facilities, and increasing resistance to treatment, In this workshop we’ll address the prevention and control of infections, outbreaks, and epidemics on home, community, national and international levels. We’ll discuss strategies for avoiding illness, including specific practices for food safety and the use of protective equipment (such as respirators) and products (such as disinfectants and hand sanitizers).
You’ll learn about disease transmission and specific ways to protect those more vulnerable to infections due to age, medications, illnesses, specific vulnerabilities and other factors. You’ll also learn the recommended methods for preventing and controlling illnesses such as TB, MRSA, E. coli, Salmonella, Norovirus, Clostridium difficile, Pertussis, Influenza, and others, including tropical illnesses, such as Dengue Fever and West Nile Virus now becoming endemic in the U.S., and bioterrorism agents. Class levels available: basic, intermediate, and advanced.
